My work has always contained a nod to the past. The art that has come before as well as the artists whose lives and stories have influenced mine. The latest works have come out of study of the world's religions, practices, symbols and artifacts and an intention to reclaim and re-present those items with the most recent work taking itself far less seriously as it nods to the present. I recently saw a thread that claimed that all art is probably channeled and for the most part, I believe that to be the truth. The act of making these pieces was quite meditative and a great deal of imagery that was never intended showed up on the paper. A great many faces appeared, where there would be none. Even a witch doctor decided he wanted his portrait made.
I have had a few interesting experiences where the brush and the hand and the movements become as one and I believe that is the ultimate creative experience for any artist working with their materials.
