Hello. Thanks for visiting. Lin Shaw is a painter and illustrator based in Las Cruces, New Mexico and Jacksonville, Florida. I began pursuing a career in art at the New York Phoenix School of Design, graduating with a degree in textile design under the mentorship of Eva Melady, and then went on to achieve a BFA in Painting from CU Boulder and an MFA in Fine Art Painting from FSU Tallahassee. My latest work focuses on esoteric and talismanic renderings using words, symbols and sentiments pulled from many cultures and ideologies as well as pop culture, books, music and sacred texts. Drawings start out with a surface scrawl of psalms and mantras. The incorporation of surrealistic elements works to create novel constructs. I often think of the process as weaving. I am also an accomplished indoor mural painter - classical ornamentation and flowers are my specialty. My favorite tools are the Grammar of Ornament book and an ancient set of sable brushes from my college days.
All original work is available through private sale. Prints of recent drawings are available on request. New commissions are always considered.
